At anytime during the school year, a child can be referred for possibly receiving speech therapy. Either the parent, guardian, or the teacher can make the request to have the child screened. After the screening, and the result indicate that therapy may be needed, the parent will receive an evaluation consent that needs to be signed and returned to school. Upon receiving the signed consent, the testing can begin. When the testing is completed, the parent is sent a notification for a case conference. At that time, testing and recommendations will be discussed. If the parent agrees, then they must sign a consent form then therapy can begin.

Normally the student will receive speech therapy two times a week for 20 minutes each session. Scheduling may differ from child to child. Services which are provided may include articulation skills, vocabulary building, syntax skills, fluency, and/or auditory memory. During the school year, your child will have homework papers to complete for speech. The homework practice will help reinforce the skills your child works on in speech class and it is very helpful in increasing the amount of progress your child makes.
